Known Problems with NIE Release 1.0 We have encountered the following problems or anomalies with version 1.0 of NIE. Where possible, these problems will be corrected in a future release. ¥ You must always specify a user name and password; those fields should not be left blank. If one or both of these fields is blank, canceling the login sequence may cause NIE to freeze, forcing you to reset your MessagePad. If you need to send a ÒblankÓ password, you must modify the login script to exclude the Send Password command and instead send a carriage return (¦). ¥ When youÕre creating an Internet setup and tap the Info button, then select Prefs and specify a time to wait until hanging up, this value applies to all setups, not just the setup youÕre editing when you select the value. ¥ With some ISPs, if you enter an incorrect user name or password, your MessagePad may reset right after the login process finishes. If your login script includes a final ÒWait forÓ string that matches a successful connection to your ISP (part of the ISPÕs ÒwelcomeÓ message, for example), this problem will not occur. ¥ The NewtonÕs Undo feature does not work for changing an operation type in the Login Script slip (you should simply tap the incorrect operation and then select the correct one from the picker). Undo also doesnÕt work when you select a different template or accidentally select the wrong template from the New picker. ¥ There is no indicator in the Internet Setup application that shows where (internal store or PC card) a setup is located. ¥ When you print out a setup, the Name Server IP Address field is identified with the label ÒDNS Address.Ó ¥ The MessagePad is occasionally unable to put away a setup that is beamed to it. Try resetting the MessagePad to remedy this. ¥ If the Internet Setup application is moved from the internal store to a PC card or vice versa, the setup information will not automatically be moved with the application. You must explicitly move setups between stores by using the Filing button in the Internet Setup applicationÕs overview. ¥ If a modem thatÕs connected to the MessagePad is turned off or unplugged from the MessagePad while an Internet connection is active, the MessagePad will reset. ¥ When Direct Serial is selected via the Internet Setup applicationÕs New button, a phone number will be displayed in a connection slip, as it it for a modem connection. Since this is a direct connection, no phone number is supposed to be displayed; the number is ignored by software and no connection problems occur. In future releases of NIE, the phone number will not appear. ¥ There appears to be some bad side effects associated with worksites containing information created with software no longer on your MessagePad. On many newer units, the "hideE" package hides the eWorld stationary in Owner Info. If you had previously created a worksite with eWorld information, you may run into problems when you open your Worksite (something you may do to add the Internet Info needed by NIE). You can work around this problem by either deleting the offending Worksite and recreating it, or by removing the hideE package from the Extensions folder in Extras. Please realize, however, that removing the "hideE" package will make the eWorld transport visible in your Routing button and In/Out Box. This is cosmetic; simply ignore the eWorld features.
