Using Rx on Tap, any given prescription, no matter how complicated, is only a few pen taps away. No longer will you have to scribble out those complicated instructions for tapering a medication over the course of weeks. No more phone calls from the pharmacist who is trying to decipher your hieroglyphics.Rx on tap also incorporates a weight based dosage calculator and notes. This version of Rx on Tap will work for 21 days unless registered. Required Hardware:1) Newton MessagePad, MessagePad 110 or Sharp ExpertPad.2) Memory card highly recommended3) Newton Connection kit for entering data from your desktop computer.4) Printer--the software was developed to take advantage of pre-printed prescriptions loaded into a Stylewriter II. Please let me know your experiences with other printers.Known Bugs:1) Rx on Tap must be present in the Newton in order to print or fax. For users of PCMCIA modems who wish to fax prescriptions this means that Rx on Tap must be present in the Newton's Internal memory. This is a design limitation of the Newton system software.Installation:1) Using Newton Connection Kit or Package Express, load the Rx on Tap program and the optional utility program on your PDA.2) Open the Rx on Tap package by tapping on the icon. You will be at the main page. If you havenÕt run the included utility program there will only be one drug preloaded. figure 13) Tap the ÒSetupÓ button, enter your personal data. Your DEA number will only be printed when you specify. Tap the close box to exit this page. Rx on Tap is now configured for you. figure 24) You may run the included Utility program to add a number of preconfigured medications. It doesnÕt matter if you do this before or after running the main program. Also run the utility if you should want to uninstall all the files associated with Rx on Tap. Printer Setup1) From the "Setup" page tap on the button labelled "Print Setup". figure 3.2) select the item that you would like to set margins for: patient name, date, Prescription, etc.3) Move the sliders labelled "Left Margin" and "Top Margin" until the desired positions are shown over the sliders.4) Tap the "Accept" button to save this setting5) Repeat steps 1-4 for the other fields.Entering a New Medication1) From the opening page tap on the ÒNewÓ button.2) You will be presented with a group of expanding entry fields.3) Type the drug name in using the onscreen keyboard rather than writing it in as it is unlikely that the name is in the NewtonÕs internal dictionary.4) Other fields such as ÒdoseÓ, ÒunitsÓ, ÒformulationÓ can be entered by handwriting or typing. These fields also have pop up choices which can be accessed tapping on the label name when a diamond is visible to the left of it. Try to use the popups whenever possible.5) Notes on this drug can be saved by tapping on the ÒDose/InfoÓ button at the bottom center of the page. Here you can enter notes or a default mg/kg/dose amount for weight based dosage calculation.6) Ensure that the ÒName ShownÓ line is to your liking. Edit it or tap on the ÒDefault NameÓ button before saving. You may need to close all the entry fields before the complete name is generated.7) Once you are satisfied with your entry tap on the ÒSaveÓ button.figure x. New Drug EntryPrinting or Faxing a Perscription1) From the opening page tap the prescription that you are interested in.2) Check the ÒDo Not SubstituteÓ box on the perscription and fill in the number of refills as desired.3) Fill in a patients name or part of the name. Rx on Tap will search your Newton Phonebook and prepare a list of matches.4) Tap on the "Date:" line if you wish to choose a different date.5) Select "Speedy Print", ÒPrint RxÓ or ÒFaxÓ from the routing button. Speedy print saves you a few steps over the regular print function. It also allows you to queue prescriptions in the outbox until you choose to print them. To change the location that a perscription is stored follow these instructions.1) From the opening page tap the prescription that you would like to move.2) Select either ÒMove from CardÓ or ÒMove to CardÓ on the routing button.Calculating Dosage by Weight. 1) From the Rx Page tap the "Info Button". 2) Enter the patient's weight in pounds or kilograms and the dose desired.3) Enter the dosage per kilogram for this medication if it is not already shown. This number will be saved for future uses of this drug.4) Notes that you enter on this page will also be saved for future reference.Using with Newton Connection KitUtilizing Newton Connection Kit, available for both Mac and Windows, one can back up drug information, edit drug information and enter new drugs on your desktop computer. In order to take advantage of this you will have to install Rx on Tap on your PDA and open the program at least once. That being done, you can ÒsynchronizeÓ your Newton and main computer. Once the machines are in synch. you can double tap on the ÒRx on Tap InfoÓ lines in the connection window and view your available drugs. You can cut and paste drugs from the spreadsheet like display that you are presented with after opening ÒRx on Tap InfoÓ in the Connection Kit. Please see the instrutions that came with your connection kit for details.Entering New Drugs via Connection Kit:1) Try to use the same terminology as the program uses on the PDA. This will help the program to generate a name to show if you do not specify one yourself2) Enter a Showname that will remind you of what this prescription is. This is the line that will be presented in the table on the front page of the program. A rudimentary showname will be generated for you if you leave the ÒShowNameÓ blank in the connection kit. It will not be as detailed as the showname generated when you enter a drug directly on the Newton. This is a limitation in Newton Connection kit that will hopefully be remedied in a future release.3) To modify the Name Shown once the drug information is on your newton see the instructions for editing.ORDERING INFORMATION:The copy of Rx on Tap that you now have can be registered by mailing $50 to Medical Microsystems. Upon receipt of your check, you will be contacted by phone and given your unlocking code number. When ordering, please ensure that all your personal information is correctly entered in the program. Then print out the Registration Form and mail it in with your check.Medical Microsystems12633 238th St., SESnohomish, WA 98290(206)489-0449Vernon W.
